‘a day at the races’ (well … not quite!)

So – Sallie, Kate, Harold and Nigel were at Chester Racecourse on Saturday 3rd March, but not for the races!

This was the venue for our most recent people and places ‘road show’ – when previous and future volunteers met each other, exchanged news and views, compared notes and information – and enjoyed a thoroughly relaxed afternoon!

Chester Racecourse

First of all – HUGE thanks to all of you who made the effort to come along – some of you travelling a VERY long way indeed. It was great to meet everyone and to share (at least, vicariously) in your volunteer experiences! Thanks also to our hosts who made us feel truly welcome in such a fabulous central Chester location… which would normally have been well beyond people and places’ miniscule budget.

Several projects were well represented  – especially the Nepal and South Africa projects – the usual buzz of conversation ensued, and it’s such a shame that more people weren’t there to share everything!

the Amar Jyoti girls !

It was disappointing – for everyone present – that there was a significant number of ‘no-shows’ … the first time this has happened. Several people sent their apologies either before or after the event – for which we thank you, and your consideration is appreciated. Of course, it’s always rewarding for us to meet volunteers – we love it – but Sallie and Kate had prepared and catered for far more people!!! Everyone ended up taking ‘doggie bags’ home with them, and we seemed to live on snacks for the next week …

Enough of a gripe – let’s look forward to our next road show! This will be a lot closer to home (in fact, it may well be at home, depending on how many people confirm that they’ll be coming!) We’d hoped to be able to travel towards the south-west in June, but feel that we should hunker down …  conserving energy and reducing costs!

Having been seriously out and about and on the road over the last 5 years, we’re now planning our next event in Faversham on Saturday 16th June.

The usual – book your places early please, so that we can make plans for how big or small of a venue we need to book!

We look forward to meeting lots of you in June!
