Trish’s volunteer story started with a group placement in January 2025 – she was part of the Kindness Adventures group who travelled to Morocco to volunteer with our partners at Education For All.  The group of 10 ladies from USA and Canada facilitated and participated in a variety of cultural activities with 30 girls from the Education for All boarding houses and two of their house-mothers. Together they did a guided tour of the medina in Marrakech, a cycling tour, a cooking class, made pottery, took part in a photography workshop and visited one of the boarding houses for a day of activities organised by the girls. 

Trish so much enjoyed meeting and getting to know the girls that she wanted to continue working with them.  We organised e-volunteer placements for her (and for Jax, another member of the group) and they spent 6 weeks working online with small groups of girls in April and May, helping them to improve their spoken English and to develop confidence in speaking the language.

Now we are working with Trish to set up an in-country placement for her.  If all goes to plan, Trish will return to Morocco in spring 2026 for a 4 week placement, volunteering at one of the boarding houses in Asni at the foothills of the Atlas Mountains and supporting the house-mother and girls in their everyday life.

Jane’s volunteer story in Morocco started with a holiday some years ago.  While on a tourist trip to Morocco she had the opportunity to visit the first Education for All boarding house in Asni.  She was so impressed with the work being done there to enable girls from rural areas to continue their education that she signed up for the Education for All newsletter – and there she read an article about their partnership with people and places and the opportunities we offer to enable skilled volunteers to share their skills with the girls and house-mothers. 

Jane was not in a position to take up an in-country placement in Morocco due to family commitments – however she was extremely interested to read about the possibility of volunteering online as this type of placement could easily be fitted in around her other commitments.  She started her first e-volunteer placement in 2021 and loved it so much that she has been e-volunteering ever since, sometimes completing two 12 week placements within a school year.  She has mostly worked with groups of girls but also worked for a year with one of the house-mothers.  During this time she has refined her skills in online volunteering – she knows what type of activities work well and what resources will be useful.  Girls and house-mothers love working with her and she hopes to begin another e-volunteer placement when the girls return to school for the 2025-2026 school year.
