As many of you will be aware there has been unrest on the Thai Cambodian border – but Siem Reap is safe and we are confidently sending volunteers as I type this.

“We are pleased and relieved to confirm that the ceasefire agreed between Cambodia and Thailand on the 27th of December is still in place.  A key Cambodian demand was the release of 18 soldiers who’d been detained since July.  These were returned on the 31st of December. 

The 2 sides are continuing negotiations and the thousands of people displaced from the border areas have now largely returned to their homes. There are still issues to resolve, a key one being the Thai occupation of several tracts of land on the border, and families from these areas haven’t yet gone back to their villages.

Siem Reap continues to operate as normal, and as Katrine Solhaug from Babel Guesthouse posted on Facebook , “Siem Reap is still the same – stunning, peaceful, and full of incredible people and a vibrant culture”.  We couldn’t agree more!
