Some specific volunteer skills needed-could you help?
The Gambia – we need someone with landscape planning experience for a new eco training centre managed by our partner project ITTOG-Institute of Travel and Tourism Gambia.
The Embon Tenda community based training school will serve as a centre for training in sustainable tourism aquaculture and boat excursions – working with the community based tourism initiative Ninki Naka Trails Foundation
South Africa – Mentor for Men’s Group with our partners at Good Work Foundation
A group of the young men who are emerging as leaders at GWF need a mentor who can assist them – their goal is to create a space where they can find the wisdom within themselves and gather wisdom from the men in their lives to be better people – both at work and at home. This is quite a progressive idea for South Africa.
Cambodia – Science teacher – our partners at Treak need a volunteer with Science teaching experience. One of the goals of the school at Treak is to give children experience of subjects and learning activities experienced by children in countries such as Australia and the UK but which are not routinely offered in Cambodian schools. The children at Treak go to state school for half a day and experience the traditional school curriculum – the other half of their day is spent at Treak where they learn things not taught in state school, such as English, and experience more active methods of teaching and learning. In state school Science is taught directly from a textbook with no practical experiments at all – so a few years ago they added Science to their curriculum so their students could experience the ‘fun’ side of Science. A number of volunteers have run Science clubs and provided some training for teachers – but these teachers have no experience from their own school days of learning Science through active participation – they are finding the delivery of this subject very difficult and have asked for specialist help.
